A powerful, visceral moment as this warrior yells out his war cry.
War Cry invites the viewer to imagine this Crow warrior preparing for battle. Adorned with necessary preparations, the warrior lets out a cry that would strike fear into even the most battle-hardened enemies.
The composition is meant to further the feeling of that dramatic cry. The style of this work is impressionistic to convey directly to the viewer that the man is in near them actively giving the war cry. The contrast between the warrior and the background further add to the drama of the scene: the warrior is backlit by the sun readying himself to charge into battle that very moment.
His hair is in a top knot and adorned with hawk feathers. These feathers are meant to impart upon the wearer good eyesight as well as the predatory skill of the hawk. He also wears brass bells and bear claws around his neck. The claws were meant to give him the ferocious presence as well as the raw strength of that creature.
