More about Superior Stature

This late-1800s Lakota warrior demonstrates his bravery through his conquest of war: a US cavalry bugler's coat (denoted by the stripes). Bugler’s coats were highly prized by the Lakota because the army’s buglers were seen as having "big medicine" - the Lakota interpreted the bugler’s role as one of fearlessness, since since they rode into battle without bearing arms.

In a bit of historical irony, the bugler was the usually the youngest and least experienced of the cavalrymen. (Although, perhaps that did, indeed, make him the bravest warrior on the field.)

Superior Stature is now available as a fine art giclee!
